You see at daycare we have "project time".  Its when I haul out the paint, glue, paper, markers, scissors, ect... and we get messy, we get busy, and most importantly we get quiet! (my favorite part) Not sure that what we do is the same as the definiton above but i was say there is some undertaking, applying, illustrating and supplementing in our own little daycare way!
We did a project were we sponge painted leaves!  I find joy in listening to the kids get excited about what we are going to paint with and which colors we are going to use!  The kids even find joy in throwing scraps away and cleaning up after each other, wiping the table down so really it does become a "project".

Today was this little guys first "project" time.  He has done a few things while the other kids did the "project" but this was the first do exactly what the other kids did project...minus sucking on the sponge part no one else did that :)
